Papakape began during the pandemic as a father and son coffee hut in a Makati garage, then opened cafes at Fort Santiago and the National Museum. Its Legazpi Village branch opened in June 2026 in an old building on Legazpi Street, and it is dressed like a 1970s Makati hotel lobby: red carpet, midcentury furniture, capiz shell lamps and a curved seat modelled on the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

The signature drinks are named after Makati landmarks that are gone. The Kapitan, for the Captain's Bar of the old Mandarin Oriental, is a latte with rum, mandarin orange and raisins, and it is only served here.
