Good to know
Admission runs on timed entry slots, so buy online rather than turning up and queueing at the desk. Prices differ for local and foreign residents and there is a discounted rate with a valid ID, so bring one. The exhibition is on the third floor and the gold galleries are on the fourth, which is a lot of walking in one visit. Enter from the Greenbelt Park side rather than Makati Avenue.
About this event
Two famous fights, Mactan in 1521 and La Naval in 1646, are turned around here so that the sea rather than the empire sets the terms. Curator Jei Ente builds the case room by room, with a rosary recovered from the San Diego shipwreck, gold thread reliefs from the La Naval collection, a short film that treats Magellan's landing as fiction, and an interactive module on the men who fought at Mactan. Amorsolo's painting of precolonial traders closes the argument.
