About this event

Two famous fights, Mactan in 1521 and La Naval in 1646, are turned around here so that the sea rather than the empire sets the terms. Curator Jei Ente builds the case room by room, with a rosary recovered from the San Diego shipwreck, gold thread reliefs from the La Naval collection, a short film that treats Magellan's landing as fiction, and an interactive module on the men who fought at Mactan. Amorsolo's painting of precolonial traders closes the argument.
