What's On Manila is a curated city guide for Metro Manila. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit the site or join our weekly email, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. We have written it to be read, not just filed.
Who we are
This website (What's On Manila, at whatsonmnl.com) is operated by Bokang Sibolla Digital (PTY) LTD, a company registered in South Africa. We are the party responsible for your personal information under this policy.
You can reach us at:
- Email: bokang.y.sibolla@gmail.com
- Phone: 9162910027
- Address: 34 Shortmarket Street, Cape Town City Centre, Western Cape, South Africa
Information we collect
We only collect what we need to run the site and send you the email you asked for.
Information you give us. When you subscribe to our weekly email we collect your email address. You can also, if you choose, tell us your name, the area of Metro Manila you are in, and the kinds of things you are interested in, so we can send you something more relevant. When you email us or fill in a form, we keep whatever you include in that message.
Information collected automatically.Like most websites, we collect some technical information when you browse, such as the pages you view, the type of device and browser you use, your approximate location, and the site that referred you. We also keep an anonymous record of which links and buttons are used on the site (for example, opening a map or visiting a venue’s website) so we can see what is useful. This interaction record is not tied to your name or email.
Cookies and analytics
We use cookies and similar technologies to understand how the site is used and to measure our marketing. Specifically we use Google Analytics 4 (GA4), a web analytics service from Google, and at times the Meta Pixel, a measurement tool from Meta (the company behind Facebook and Instagram), to understand whether our ads reach the right people.
These tools set cookies in your browser and collect usage data as described above. You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics using Google’s opt-out browser add-on. Blocking cookies will not stop you from reading the site.
How we use your information
- To send you our weekly email and a welcome email when you first subscribe.
- To tailor what we send based on the area and interests you share with us.
- To understand which events, places and articles are useful, and to improve the site.
- To measure how well our own marketing works.
- To respond to your messages and enquiries.
- To keep the site secure and to meet our legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information. When we work with partners and advertisers, we report on audience and performance in aggregate. We sell placement on our channels, never your data.
Who we share it with
We share information only with the service providers that help us run What's On Manila, and only so they can perform their service for us. These include:
- Supabase, which hosts our database and stores subscriber and interaction data.
- Resend, which stores your email address and name in order to deliver our newsletter.
- Vercel, which hosts the website.
- Google, for analytics and for venue information and photographs sourced from Google Places.
- Meta, when the Meta Pixel is active for advertising measurement.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights, our users or the public.
Where your information is processed
We operate from South Africa, our audience is in the Philippines and around the world, and the providers above may store and process data in other countries. Wherever your information is processed, we take reasonable steps to see that it is treated in line with this policy.
How long we keep it
We keep your subscriber information for as long as you stay on our list. If you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your information, we remove it, except where we are required to keep something for legal reasons. Analytics data is retained according to the providers’ standard settings.
Your rights and choices
You can unsubscribe from our email at any time using the link in every email, or by writing to us. Depending on where you live, including under South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and the Philippines’ Data Privacy Act of 2012, you have rights to:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you and get a copy.
- Ask us to correct information that is wrong or out of date.
- Ask us to delete your information.
- Object to, or ask us to limit, how we use it.
- Withdraw your consent at any time.
- Complain to a data protection regulator.
To exercise any of these, email us at bokang.y.sibolla@gmail.com. In South Africa you may also contact the Information Regulator. We will respond within a reasonable time.
Children
What's On Manila is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will remove it.
Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security, but we work to keep your information safe.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the date at the top of the page, and for significant changes we will give notice where appropriate. Your continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
