The atrium at the centre of The Peninsula Manila, under a sunburst sculpture and a canopy of palms, and the closest thing Makati has to a public living room. It runs from breakfast through afternoon tea into evening drinks, with live music through much of the day. People have been meeting here for decades, which is rather the point.
