- Arrive at least half an hour before the fiesta Mass if you want a seat, and confirm the exact Mass times with the basilica closer to the date. Streets around Plaza San Lorenzo Ruiz close during the procession, so take the LRT to Carriedo and walk in rather than driving.
About this event
Lorenzo Ruiz was born in this parish and became the first Filipino saint, which is why the shrine on the plaza carries his name and draws people from well beyond the neighbourhood on his feast. Masses run from early morning and build to the evening fiesta Mass, followed by a procession through the streets around the plaza. Many in the congregation are relatives of Filipinos working abroad, since Ruiz is their patron.
