What was declared
Proclamation No. 1006, signed on 3 September 2025, lists Bonifacio Day on 30 November (Monday) among the regular holidays for 2026. It covers the whole country. That is different from the ASEAN Summit days off on 16 to 18 November, which cover Metro Manila only (see our guide to that break).
Pay, from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE):
- If you work on 30 November: 200 percent of your daily wage for the first eight hours, under DOLE Labor Advisory No. 18, series of 2026, dated 12 October, as reported by the Daily Tribune. Overtime adds 30 percent on the hourly rate.
- If it is also your rest day and you work: another 30 percent on top of the 200 percent.
- If you do not work: DOLE's 2026 holiday pay advisory, No. 12-25, says the employer pays 100 percent of the day's wage, as long as you reported for work or were on paid leave the day before.
Who Andres Bonifacio was
The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) marker at the Andres Bonifacio Shrine in Mehan Garden, Manila, says Bonifacio was born in Tondo, Manila, on 30 November 1863. He joined La Liga Filipina and founded the Katipunan, a secret society that set out to win independence for the Philippines through revolution. He also wrote patriotic poems and essays. Bonifacio Day marks his birth, so 2026 is the 163rd anniversary.
The NHCP had not announced its 2026 programme for the day when we checked on 4 November 2026. We will add the rites once they are posted.
If you want the story on stage, Tanghalang Pilipino's P-pop musical Gregoria Lakambini, about Gregoria de Jesus and the Katipunan, ends its run at The Proscenium Theater in Rockwell on Sunday 29 November. Gabriela: The Musical, about Gabriela Silang, plays Thursdays to Sundays at Hyundai Hall in Areté, Ateneo, until 6 December.

The Christmas lights
Araneta City lights its giant tree on Thursday 12 November at 5PM at Coliseum Plaza, and the Belen is listed for Friday 13 November, so both should be lit by this weekend. Most SM trees in Metro Manila were lit in October. Makati, Rockwell and BGC had not posted 2026 dates when we last checked. See Christmas Lights in Metro Manila 2026, which we update as dates come out.
One day out of town
Because Bonifacio Day is a national holiday, expect the roads out of Metro Manila to be busy on Saturday morning and Monday afternoon. Leave early and come back early. For a half day, try Antipolo for art and views close to the city. For a full day, Tagaytay is the classic.
