The best speakeasy bars in Manila are Blind Pig, The Curator and The Grasshopper Bar in Legazpi Village, The Back Room and The Attic in BGC, and The Spirits Library in Poblacion. Each sits behind an unmarked door, a shop shelf or a coffee bar, and all were confirmed open in 2026. Below are 12 hidden bars worth finding, grouped by area, with how to find the door and what to know before you go.

Updated October 2026.

In Manila, "speakeasy" (the name for hidden bars during American Prohibition in the 1920s) means a bar with a concealed or unmarked entrance and a quieter, cocktail-first room. If you want music first and conversation second, see our guide to Manila's listening bars.

Legazpi and Salcedo Villages, Makati

Makati's business district holds the city's densest cluster of hidden bars, most within a short walk of each other. It is the best area for a bar crawl on foot.

Blind Pig Often called Manila's first speakeasy, Blind Pig opened in 2011, and its bartenders trained with alumni of New York's Milk & Honey. Head bartender Tog Exconde has been there from the start, and the drinks are classic and precise, with no gimmicks. The room is dim and jazzy, good for a quiet conversation. Legazpi Village · ₱₱ · G/F Windsor Tower, 163 Legazpi Street · Tip: the bar moved here from Salcedo Street, so ignore older guides that give the old address. If you are unsure what to order, ask for a bartender's choice.

The Curator Coffee & Cocktails By day the front is a specialty coffee shop; in the evening, cocktail service starts in the room at the back. The bar has been listed on Asia's 50 Best Bars for several years running, and it remains one of the city's best-known cocktail rooms. Legazpi Village · ₱₱ · 134 Legazpi Street corner C. Palanca Street · Cocktails Tuesday to Sunday from early evening · Tip: walk through the café to find the bar.

The Grasshopper Bar An unmarked black door with a small grasshopper beside it, and behind it warm wood, mid-century furniture and a menu built on Filipino produce. It made the Tatler Best 20 Bars Philippines list in 2025 and 2026, and it is quiet enough to hold a real conversation. Legazpi Village · ₱₱₱ · G/F OPL Building, C. Palanca Street · Tip: the sign is tiny and easy to walk past, so look for the small grasshopper beside the black door.

Big Fuzz Tatler's 2026 Bar of the Year, on the second floor behind a heavy red door in Little Tokyo. Four friends built it to feel like a private living room: mismatched sofas, vinyl playing, and classic cocktails reworked with modern techniques and named after pop culture references. Legazpi Village (Little Tokyo) · ₱₱ · 2/F Creekside Building, Amorsolo corner V.A. Rufino Streets · Tip: two people can usually find a seat at the bar; groups should book ahead.

78-45-33 A jazz bar behind an unmarked door at the rear of a Salcedo Village building, with only the lit numbers by the entrance to give it away. Live sets are played on a Steinway baby grand, and guests are asked to stop talking when the band plays. Salcedo Village · ₱₱₱ · G/F (rear), LPL Mansions, 44 San Agustin Street · Open daily from 4pm · Tip: reserve by Viber before 5pm on the day; for live sets, the door fee goes to the artists and is best bought ahead.

BGC

Bonifacio Global City's hidden bars are spread out, from Shangri-La near 5th Avenue to Uptown's club strip. Plan on a short Grab ride between them rather than walking.

The Back Room A 1920s-style bar inside Shangri-La The Fort, with Art Deco furniture, green leather walls and an in-house gin laboratory; it opened with more than 150 gins on the shelf. It made the Tatler Best 20 Bars list in 2025 and 2026, and took Best Service in 2025. BGC · ₱₱ · Street level, Shangri-La The Fort, 30th Street corner 5th Avenue · Daily 6pm to 2am · Tip: the entrance is on the 30th Street side, through glass doors and past a shoeshine station. Smart casual dress, no smoking inside.

The Attic A small bar behind a shelf inside Soju Express, the liquor shop at the foot of Park West Residences in Uptown. The menu is an illustrated storybook of cocktails, and there is a communal table for groups and solo guests alike. Tatler named it a Best bar for 2026. Uptown BGC · ₱₱₱ · G/F Park West Residences, 7th Avenue corner 36th Street · Opens from 6pm on weekdays and 4pm on weekends · Tip: walk into the liquor shop and look for the bar behind the bottle displays. The room is small, so book through Instagram (@theatticbar_).

Somewhere Quiet Behind an unmarked brown door beneath The Distillery in The Palace complex, this bar is dressed as a bathroom: white tiles, shower fittings on the walls and a bathtub in the room. The cocktails come from a team that includes the people behind ReCraft in Quezon City. Uptown BGC · ₱₱₱ · The Palace, 10th Avenue corner 38th Street · Tuesday to Sunday from 6pm · Good to know: despite the name, it gets loud once the club crowd arrives after 9pm. Go early if you want to talk.

No Entry A below-ground speakeasy and supper club co-founded by apl.de.ap of the Black Eyed Peas, reached through a loading dock and a dim staircase. It won Best Design at the Tatler Best 2026 awards, and pairs its cocktails with an open kitchen and live music. BGC · ₱₱ · G/F One/Neo Building, 3rd Avenue corner 26th Street · Opens 4pm Monday to Friday and 6pm on weekends · Tip: book through OpenTable or the bar's WhatsApp, especially for a dinner table.

Poblacion and around

Poblacion is Makati's loudest bar district, which makes its quieter rooms more valuable. It is about 15 minutes by car from Legazpi Village outside rush hour.

The Spirits Library Not hidden in the strict sense, but it belongs on any list of Manila's speakeasy-style bars. A double-height room with one of Asia's deepest collections of rare bottles, vintage glassware and old bar books, under a large chandelier. A Tatler Best 20 bar in 2025 and 2026. Poblacion · ₱₱₱ · 4963 Guerrero Street · Daily 6pm to 3am · Tip: reserve by Instagram message (@thespiritslibrary) for weekends, and come later in the evening for the full atmosphere.

Mono by Phono A hi-fi listening club in a row of older Makati townhouses at the edge of Poblacion, with no obvious sign. The sound system comes first; the cocktails support it. Makati, edge of Poblacion · ₱₱ · 9654 Pililia Street · Tuesday to Sunday, 8pm to 3am · Tip: check the week's events on Instagram (@monobyphono) before you go. It is a music room, so it gets loud late.

Blue Door 304 One of Poblacion's newer hidden bars, on the third floor of the Matheus Building. Inside are warm lamps, wood and two record players, with jazz playing low, and it now hosts live music on many nights. Signature cocktails were ₱450 to ₱500 in a January 2026 review. Poblacion · 3/F Matheus Building · Tuesday to Thursday and Sunday 7pm to 2am, Friday and Saturday 7pm to 3am · Tip: look for the blue door and use the knocker. Live music nights usually carry a door fee, so check Instagram (@thebluedoor304) first.

Before you go

  • Book on weekends. Most of these rooms are small, and Friday and Saturday fill fast. Weeknights are easier for walk-ins, especially before 9pm. Booking methods differ: Instagram messages for many bars, Viber for 78-45-33, OpenTable for No Entry, and a phone call for hotel bars.
  • Give yourself time to find the door. Google Maps will get you to the building, not the entrance. Arrive five minutes early and look for the small signal each bar uses: a symbol, a colour, a number or a shop shelf.
  • Dress smart casual. Shangri-La lists it as the dress code for The Back Room, and it is a safe choice everywhere else too.
  • Follow the house rules. Some rooms ask for quiet during live sets, and some prefer you keep the room off social media. Keep your voice down and let the bartenders guide you.
  • Plan your traffic. Between BGC and Legazpi Village, allow 30 to 45 minutes by car on a weekday evening. Pick one area per night and walk between bars where you can. For more ideas, see our nightlife guide and date ideas.
  • Check the bill. Many bars add a service charge, so look before you tip on top.

Is Bank Bar in BGC still open?

No. Bank Bar, the well-known speakeasy behind a 7-Eleven in BGC, closed on 27 December 2025 after 10 years. For a similar hidden-door experience in BGC, try The Attic or The Back Room.
