Date ideas in Manila: things to do together, not just dinner

A pottery class, a first climb, a free museum, a riverside walk or jazz without microphones, each paired with a good place to eat or drink nearby.

By What's On Manila editors

The best date ideas in Manila are the ones where you do something side by side before you sit across a table: a wheel-throwing class at Laro Ceramics, a first climb at The Bouldering Hive, an afternoon at the Ayala Museum or the free National Museum of Fine Arts, an evening walk on the Pasig River Esplanade, or unamplified jazz at 78-45-33. Then eat or drink somewhere that suits the mood: Manam after a walk in Ayala Triangle Gardens, a sunset cocktail at Mistral or Straight Up, or a bottle at The Bevvy after the galleries on Chino Roces.

Updated October 2026.

This guide is about things to do together. If what you need is one big dinner for an anniversary, birthday or proposal, we keep that list separately in Romantic Restaurants in Manila. Below, the ideas are grouped by the kind of date you want, and most pair an activity with somewhere close by to eat or drink. For more evenings out, see our nightlife hub and the eat and drink hub.

Look at something together

Museums and galleries are good early dates: there is always something to talk about, and nobody has to fill a silence.

Ayala Museum sits at the edge of Greenbelt Park, with Philippine art and history spread over three gallery floors that you can also visit one at a time. Tickets are sold in timed slots and must be booked online before you go. Makati Avenue corner De La Rosa Street, Greenbelt, Makati. Full museum access ₱500 (local rate). Tuesday to Sunday, 11am to 7pm; closed Monday. Tip: walk through Greenbelt Park afterwards for a coffee or an early dinner.

National Museum of Fine Arts fills the old Legislative Building in Rizal Park with 29 galleries of 19th century Filipino masters, National Artists and modern painters and sculptors. Entry is free, which makes it the best first date in the city for the price. Padre Burgos Avenue, Rizal Park, Ermita, Manila. Free. Daily, 9am to 6pm. Tip: go on a weekday morning, then walk to Intramuros; our Intramuros guide has the route.

Silverlens is one of the galleries along Chino Roces Avenue Extension that show the country's leading contemporary artists. Shows change through the year and entry is free. For the rest of the strip, read A First-Timer's Guide to Manila's Gallery Row. 2263 Don Chino Roces Avenue Extension, Makati. Free. Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 6pm.

The Bevvy is the place to sit down after the galleries, a few doors up the same road. It is a wine bar run by an importer, so bottles from 11 countries and 65 regions are poured with only a small markup, in a windowless, wood-lined room built for talking. The kitchen does ribeye, crispy pork knuckle and fish and chips made with cod or gindara. UPRC III Building, 2289 Chino Roces Avenue Extension, Makati. Monday to Saturday, 4pm to midnight; closed Sunday. Good to know: if wine is new to you, the owner suggests starting with the Pebble Lane Sauvignon Blanc.

Make something, or climb something

A class gives you a shared task, a few laughs at your own mistakes, and something to take home.

Laro Ceramics runs three-hour beginner classes on the pottery wheel in its studio above Bonifacio High Street. No experience is needed, clay and tools are included, and two of the pieces you make are glazed and fired. For more classes like it, see Pottery, Art and Cooking Classes in Manila. 3rd Floor, C2 Building, Bonifacio High Street, 7th Avenue, BGC. Beginner wheel class ₱3,200 per person. Book on laro-ceramics.com. Good to know: the finished pieces are shipped to you about three months later, which makes a nice reason for a second date.

The Bouldering Hive has been running indoor bouldering in Manila since 2019. Bouldering means short climbs over thick mats with no ropes, so you can start in an hour, and the Intro to Bouldering class is made for people who have never climbed. Our bouldering and climbing guide covers the other gyms. Upper Ground Level, Circuit Lane, Ayala Malls Circuit Makati. Rates start at ₱700. Tip: wear clothes you can stretch in and book the intro class ahead.

Walk, browse and wander

Ayala Triangle Gardens is more than 20,000 square metres of lawns and over a hundred trees in the middle of the Makati business district. Restaurants line its edge, so a walk at dusk leads straight to dinner. Ayala Avenue, Paseo de Roxas and Makati Avenue, Makati. Free. Daily, 6am to 10pm.

Manam at the Triangle is in that arcade, the first flagship of the Filipino comfort food restaurant and a MICHELIN Bib Gourmand, the guide's award for good food at fair prices. Ayala Triangle Walkways, Makati. ₱₱. Book through momentfood.com/manamATGreservations.

Salcedo Saturday Market fills Jaime C. Velasquez Park every Saturday morning with bread, pastries, cooked food from around the world, fruit, vegetables and crafts. Breakfast here, then a slow walk through Salcedo Village, is one of the easiest weekend dates in Makati. Our weekend markets guide has the others. Jaime C. Velasquez Park, Salcedo Village, Makati. Free entry. Saturdays, 7am to 2pm. Tip: arrive before 9am, before the heat and the crowd.

Pasig River Esplanade is a riverside walk along the edge of Intramuros, from Fort Santiago to Jones Bridge, on a path shared by walkers and cyclists. In the evening the food kiosks open along the Intramuros stretch. Intramuros, Manila. Free. Open daily; kiosks from 4pm to midnight. Tip: from Makati or BGC, leave before 5pm or after 8pm to miss the worst traffic.

Music you sit still for

78-45-33 is a 30-seat jazz room behind an unmarked door in Salcedo Village, with a Steinway baby grand and singers who perform without microphones. Tickets are usually ₱500 a set, and the door money goes to the musicians. LPL Mansions (rear), 44 San Agustin Street, Salcedo Village, Makati. Daily, 4pm to midnight. Book by Viber on +63 966 773 8982; evening reservations close at 5pm, and walk-ins take any free table.

Fat Cat is a small, dim cocktail bar modelled on a Japanese jazz kissaten (a café where people come to listen to records), on the second floor of Makati Central Square. The current menu turns the 22 Major Arcana tarot cards into cocktails, which gives a date something to talk about straight away. It is on the Tatler Best 20 Bars list for 2026. Makati Central Square, Amorsolo Street, Makati. ₱₱.

Cattery is the live music bar from the same couple, across the way. If you both like to sing, or just to watch, Wednesday is open mic night. Makati Central Square, Amorsolo Street, Makati. ₱₱. Tuesday to Thursday 6pm to 1am, Friday to Sunday 6pm to 2am; closed Monday.

A slower evening

I'M Onsen Spa has Japanese-style hot pools, steam and sauna, and couples suites for massage, open until 2am. Seatings at 6pm and 8:30pm, booked on TableCheck with a non-refundable ₱500 per guest fee that counts toward your bill.

Before you go

  • Getting around. Most of these ideas are in Makati or BGC; the National Museum and the esplanade are in old Manila. Book a Grab, and allow 45 minutes to an hour from Makati or BGC to Intramuros at rush hour. Our guide to getting around Manila has the train options.
  • Booking. Ayala Museum tickets, Laro classes, I'M Onsen and Good Morning Wines must be booked ahead. For 78-45-33, message before 5pm on the day. The galleries, gardens, market and esplanade are walk-in.
  • When to go. Museums and classes are calmer on weekdays. Most museums and galleries close on Monday, but the National Museum opens daily. Rooftops are best from 5pm for the sunset.
  • Rain. In the wet season, roughly June to November, swap the esplanade and open decks for the museums, the climbing gym or the onsen.
  • Payment. Hotels, museums and most bars take cards. Bring cash or GCash for the Salcedo market and the riverside kiosks.
