Romantic Restaurants in Manila for an Anniversary, Birthday or Proposal
Tasting menus, quiet counters, grand old rooms and a view over Manila Bay: where to book the dinner that has to go right, with prices and how far ahead to reserve.
The best romantic restaurants in Manila for an anniversary, birthday or proposal are the small tasting-menu rooms in Makati and BGC: Helm, Celera, Inatô, Taupe and Iai. If you want a grand old room or a view, choose L'Opera, Blackbird at the Nielson Tower or Finestra over Manila Bay. Plan on booking two to four weeks ahead for a Friday or Saturday.
Updated October 2026.
This guide is for the dinner that has to go right. Every pick below is open now, takes reservations, and has a room quiet enough to talk in. We have grouped them by the kind of night you are planning. Want something more casual? See our date ideas or the wider eat and drink guide.
Tasting menus for the big night
A tasting menu is a fixed sequence of small courses chosen by the chef. For an anniversary it does one useful thing: nobody has to decide anything, so the evening is about the two of you.
Helm is the only restaurant in the Philippines with two Michelin stars. Josh Boutwood cooks for 24 guests, and the current Single Ingredient menu builds each course around one ingredient, such as tuna, pumpkin or wagyu, prepared in several ways. It is the safest choice when the occasion is the biggest of the year. Makati, Ayala Triangle Gardens Tower 2, 3rd floor. ₱7,500 per person including VAT, plus 10% service charge (August 2026). Tuesday to Sunday, dinner. Book by phone, email or the booking link at joshboutwood.com, several weeks ahead. Good to know: send any allergies when you book.
Celera is a dark, hushed room on the third floor of Comuna, from chefs Nicco Santos and Quenee Vilar. The cooking draws on Japan, China, Singapore and the Philippines, with dashi, fermentation and smoke running through the menu. It won a Michelin star in its first year. Makati, Pablo Ocampo Sr. Extension. ₱₱₱₱. Tuesday to Saturday, 6pm to 11pm. Book by WhatsApp rather than online. Good to know: tables are released about a month ahead and go fast, and cancellations inside a week are not refunded, so confirm the date before you pay.
Inatô is JP Cruz's eight-seat marble counter in The Alley at Karrivin. There is no printed menu: the Bahala Na set ("leave it to fate") is decided on the night from what is in season. Tatler named it Best Service in the Philippines for 2026, and the room feels personal rather than formal. Makati, Chino Roces Avenue Extension. ₱5,900 per person plus service. Tuesday to Saturday, counter seatings at 6pm and 8:30pm, plus a private room for four to six. Book on TableCheck through inato.ph, with a ₱1,000 deposit per guest. Tip: take the 8:30pm seating so there is no second sitting waiting for your seats. Skip if: either of you eats vegetarian, as there is no vegetarian menu.
Taupe is Francis Tolentino's tasting room on 26th Street, and a Michelin Selected restaurant in the first Philippine guide. The current Essence menu pairs Filipino ingredients with global technique, and there is a chef's table if you want to watch the kitchen. BGC, The Maridien Tower 2. Eight courses ₱6,500, six courses ₱5,500. Tuesday to Sunday, 6pm to 11pm, reservation only. Tip: the six-course menu is the easiest way in for a birthday on a budget.
Gallery by Chele is Chele González's Michelin-starred room on the fifth floor of Clipp Center. It serves only set tasting menus, with a full vegetarian version, which makes it the best tasting menu on this list if one of you does not eat meat. BGC, 11th Avenue corner 39th Street. ₱₱₱₱. Lunch and dinner. Book by email or phone, and ask for the current menu and price when you do.
Counters and small rooms
Iai is Bruce Ricketts' sushi and kappo restaurant across from the Grand Hyatt. Sit at the ten-seat counter for the sushi omakase, or book the private room for four to nine guests for a birthday with family. BGC, The Montane, 8th Avenue corner 35th Street. ₱₱₱₱. Wednesday to Sunday, 6pm to 10pm. Online booking only, 50% deposit, no walk-ins. Good to know: cancellations less than 48 hours ahead are not refunded.
12/10 suits a birthday that should feel warm rather than ceremonial. Chef Gab Bustos runs a ten-course omakase alongside a looser izakaya menu, with sake and highballs. Rockwell, 8 Rockwell ground floor. ₱₱₱. Dinner Monday to Saturday, no Sunday dinner. Book on twelveten.ph. Good to know: the room is lively, so it suits a celebration more than a proposal.
Classic rooms for a long dinner
L'Opera Ristorante Italiano has been serving classical Italian food since 1994 and moved to Seven Neo in BGC in 2025. Handmade pasta, a deep wine list and an unhurried pace make it a dependable anniversary table, especially for couples who would rather order à la carte than sit through ten courses. BGC, Seven Neo, 4th Avenue corner 26th Street. ₱₱₱. Open daily for lunch and dinner. Book by phone or email.
Blackbird at the Nielson Tower sits in the 1937 terminal building of the country's first commercial airport, inside Ayala Triangle Gardens. The Art Deco rooms, the international menu and a Tatler Best 20 listing for 2026 make it the most romantic setting in Makati. For a proposal or a family party, the second-floor room holds up to 22 guests (dinner rental was ₱80,000 in March 2026). Makati, Ayala Triangle. ₱₱₱₱. Open daily from 11am. Book by phone or email. Tip: arrive before dark for a walk through the gardens first.
Dinner with a view
Finestra is Solaire's Italian restaurant, with windows onto Manila Bay. It is the most complete "big night" package here: a pianist most nights, a trio on Fridays and Saturdays, a chocolate trolley and a private dining room for 16. Entertainment City, Parañaque, next to the Pasay and MOA area. ₱₱₱₱. Dinner daily, 5:30pm to 10:30pm. Dress code smart casual to elegant. Allow 30 to 60 minutes from Makati or BGC depending on traffic.
VU's Sky Bar and Lounge is on the 45th floor of Marco Polo Ortigas, with the whole city lit up below you. It is a lounge rather than a restaurant, so treat it as dinner with cocktails, not a tasting menu. Ortigas. ₱₱₱. Tip: ask for the Manila Area side, which has soft music and is quieter than the Rizal Area side with the live band.
Worth the drive
Antonio's in Tagaytay is a Spanish colonial house in a garden setting, and it made Tatler's Best 20 for 2026. Every main comes with a starter, dessert and coffee, which suits a long, slow meal. An anniversary lunch here pairs well with a night in the hills; our Tagaytay weekend guide covers the rest. Tagaytay, Cavite, about 1.5 to 2.5 hours from Makati. ₱₱₱₱. Tuesday to Sunday, with lunch from 11:30am and dinner from 5:30pm; bookings are confirmed only once the restaurant calls or emails back. Smart casual, no shorts or slippers. See more trips on weekenders.
Before you go
- Book early. For a Friday or Saturday, two to four weeks ahead is sensible for the tasting rooms; Helm needs longer. December and Valentine's week fill first.
- Deposits are normal. Iai, Inatô and Celera take money upfront and have strict cancellation rules. Read them before you pay.
- Tell them it is an occasion. Mention the anniversary, birthday or proposal when you book, and send allergies well ahead.
- Plan for traffic. On a Friday evening, even Makati to BGC can take 45 minutes or more. Choose a place on your side of the city, or leave by 5:30pm.
- Service charge. Most of these add 10% service on top of menu prices.
- Dress. Smart casual works everywhere here. Antonio's and Finestra state a dress code.
