Date night in Poblacion: where to eat, then where to go after
Nine Poblacion restaurants for two, from a MICHELIN starred tasting menu to a dim French bistro and a 32nd floor rooftop, with which rooms stay quiet and which get loud, and the bars to walk to after. Checked October 2026.
For date night in Poblacion, book Kása Palma on Palma Street if it is a big night, Dr. Wine on Algier Street for a dim French bistro with a long wine list, or Lampara on Enriquez Street for a small Bib Gourmand room at a fair price. Bibio does natural wine and shared plates in low light, La Pita suits an early, easy dinner, and Japonesa and Rekdi are the livelier tables. For a rooftop, Firefly Roofdeck sits 32 floors up on Makati Avenue. After dinner, the bars are a short walk away.
Updated October 2026.
Poblacion is the old town centre of Makati, a grid of small streets between Kalayaan Avenue, Makati Avenue and J.P. Rizal Avenue, and it is the easiest part of the city to plan a whole evening in on foot. This guide answers one question: where should two people eat here tonight. We picked rooms you can talk in, and we say plainly which ones stay quiet and which ones get loud. For the city-wide anniversary and proposal list, see Romantic Restaurants in Manila. For more on the streets themselves, see the Poblacion neighbourhood page.
For the big night
Kása Palma holds a MICHELIN star in the 2026 guide. Chef Aaron Isip cooks with French technique, a wood fire and Filipino ingredients, in a room of straw cloche lamps, plants and shell-lined walls. Choose how the evening feels: the tasting menu on the breezy terrace is the calmer option, while the counter faces the open kitchen and is livelier, with à la carte cooking. The 10 course menu is ₱8,500 a person and the 8 course menu ₱6,500, with wine pairings at ₱4,000 and ₱3,000 (restaurant menu, October 2026). 6042 R. Palma Street. ₱₱₱₱. Tuesday to Saturday, 5:30pm to 11pm; closed Sunday and Monday. Good to know: book through kasapalma.com or call +63 917 155 9669, and say if you want the terrace or the counter.
Dr. Wine Poblacion is the first Manila branch of the French bistro and wine bar, open since 2017, and the restaurant itself calls this the intimate, dimly lit one. Chef Romain Escande, from Toulouse, cooks bistro classics, and the wine list runs past 400 bottles. Share the chicken liver mousse with maple syrup (₱495) and the Dr. Platter of cheese, cold cuts and rillettes (₱1,980), or start with six Fine de Claire oysters for ₱1,400 (restaurant menu, October 2026). It is quiet over dinner and turns louder on nights with a DJ. Ground Floor, 5921 Algier Street. ₱₱₱. Open into the late evening; check the day's hours on dr.wine/poblacion. Tip: book on the form at dr.wine/poblacion, and go early if you want to talk.
Small rooms, fair prices
Lampara holds a Bib Gourmand, the MICHELIN award for good food at a fair price. It is a small bistro up one floor on a quiet side street, with a softly lit sign and a terrace, and the kitchen brings French technique to Filipino dishes: octopus, soft shell crab and tofu rice cups, then a dessert the inspectors say not to skip. It is the best value date on this list. 2F, 5883 Enriquez Street. ₱₱. Daily, 5pm to midnight. Tip: call 0917 173 5883 to book. OTO, the listening bar, is in the same building, so the second stop is a few steps away.
Bibio is a natural wine bar on the corner of Don Pedro and Jacobo, and Tatler named it one of Manila's date-night rooms for Valentine's Day 2026: low lights, close tables and conversation that stays at a level you can lean into. Chef Valentine Costuna's plates are made for sharing, so order several and pass them across. If natural wine is new to you, tell the staff what you usually drink and let them choose, or ask for a cocktail. 5659 Don Pedro Street, corner Jacobo. ₱₱. Monday to Thursday 4pm to 1am, Friday and Saturday 4pm to 2am, Sunday 4pm to midnight. Good to know: it opens for lunch on weekends too, which makes for an easy daytime date.
La Pita is chef Sam Rohana's small Middle Eastern restaurant on Don Pedro, and a Bib Gourmand for 2026. The MICHELIN inspectors describe it as an intimate, sunlit spot. Order the house pita with muhammara, the smoky red pepper dip, and finish with muhallebi, a milk pudding. It closes at 10pm, so it suits an early date, with time for a drink after. 5652 Don Pedro Street. ₱₱. Daily, 11am to 10pm. Tip: call 0966 483 5789 before going on a Friday or Saturday.
A livelier table
Japonesa cooks Japanese-Peruvian food, sushi and yakitori next to ceviche, on the corner of Don Pedro and Jacobo. The room is bigger than most in Poblacion, seating 70 around a 16 seat centre table, so it rarely feels hushed, but the bar takes its pisco sours and sake cocktails seriously. There is also a private dining room for 18 to 20 if the date is a birthday with friends. 5658 Don Pedro Street, corner Jacobo. ₱₱₱. Sunday to Thursday 5pm to midnight; Friday and Saturday 5pm to 2am. Good to know: book on notorious-concepts.com. Bibio is across the street for a glass after.
Rekdi is filmmaker Erik Matti's three floor restaurant on Pagulayan Street, opened in 2026 and calling itself a modern karinderya. Almost everything comes off the grill. Ask for the third floor, where counter seats face the open grill, which is the better seat for two. Order the grilled cabbage with salted egg hollandaise (₱410) and the Rekdi BBQ of pork and beef belly with kansi onion soup (₱595) (restaurant menu, October 2026). Expect it to be lively. 5713 Pagulayan Street. ₱₱₱. Tuesday to Sunday, 6pm to 1am; closed Monday. Good to know: reservations are by text only, to +63 952 487 4653.
Super Uncle Claypot is for the low-key date: Cantonese claypot rice, cooked to order so the rice crisps at the bottom of the pot, with a sweet soy sauce poured at the table. It is MICHELIN Selected for 2026. The room is casual and gets louder after 10pm at weekends. 5887 Enriquez Street. ₱₱. Sunday to Thursday 11am to midnight; Friday and Saturday 11am to 2am. Tip: each pot takes 20 to 30 minutes, so order as you sit down and have dim sum while you wait.
For more places that cook past midnight, see Late-Night Food in Manila.
Dinner with a view
Firefly Roofdeck is the restaurant and bar on the 32nd floor of City Garden Grand Hotel, on the corner of Makati Avenue and Kalayaan Avenue at the edge of Poblacion. Come up just before sunset to watch the Makati skyline light up. The menu is broad hotel cooking, and from 6pm there are hot rock steaks: a New York strip of about 300g for ₱2,500, or surf and turf for ₱3,000 (Firefly menu, October 2026). There is live music on select nights. Come for the view first and the food second. 32/F City Garden Grand Hotel, 8008 Makati Avenue corner Kalayaan Avenue. ₱₱₱. Daily, 7am to 1:30am. Good to know: walk-ins are welcome, or call +63 2 8554 3429 ahead.
For more rooftops across the city, see Rooftop Bars in Manila.
After dinner
Poblacion's bars are a few minutes' walk from every restaurant above, so there is no need for a car between dinner and drinks. Our full list, sorted by the kind of night you want, is The Best Bars in Poblacion. Three that suit two people who want to keep talking:
- Run Rabbit Run on B. Valdez Street, for cocktails built on fresh produce and herbs in a warm room. Open to 1am on weeknights, 3am on Friday and Saturday.
- OTO on Enriquez Street, the listening bar in the same building as Lampara. Go before 10pm to hear the records rather than the crowd.
- The Spirits Library on Guerrero Street, for a nightcap among rare bottles in a double-height room. Call ahead on a weekend.
The easiest pairings: Lampara then OTO, Japonesa then Bibio across the street, or La Pita early and cocktails at Run Rabbit Run after.
If you would rather do something together before dinner, our date ideas in Manila has classes, galleries and walks, and the eat and drink hub and nightlife hub have more.
Before you go
- Booking. Book Kása Palma, Dr. Wine, Lampara and Japonesa ahead for Friday or Saturday. Rekdi takes bookings by text only. Bibio, Super Uncle Claypot and Firefly Roofdeck take walk-ins.
- When to go. Thursday to Saturday, the streets are busy from about 9pm. For a quiet dinner, book for 6:30pm or 7pm, or go Sunday to Wednesday. Firefly is best just before sunset.
- Getting there. Take a Grab or a car. Parking on the inner streets is scarce, so ask to be dropped at the door. From Rockwell it is 5 to 10 minutes; from BGC (Bonifacio Global City), 20 to 40 minutes via Kalayaan Avenue.
- Getting home. After midnight at weekends, cars crawl through the inner streets. Walk out to Makati Avenue or Kalayaan Avenue for an easier pickup, and keep phones close on dark side streets.
- The bill. Many Manila restaurants add a 10% service charge, so check the menu. Most sit-down places take cards; carry some cash or GCash for smaller spots.
- Dress. There is no dress code in Poblacion. The pavements are uneven, so wear shoes you can walk in between dinner and the bar.
